The Girls in the Garden by Lisa Jewell

The Girls in the GardenIntro: A dead girl is found in the garden. Note the date & time on top of the page.

Before: A slow, meandering tale leading up to the death. Dare I call it a garden path?

After: The fallout, with flashbacks to The Dastardly Day all having a date & time on top to let you know that here is a flash-back. Can’t believe how long it took me to catch on to that tip. 😉

Slower pace than many American stories. I like all the teen/preteen friendships, and the adults relating to each other with more or less friendship. Everything is layered, people are complex, even pre-teen people. I also like the elderly woman who has a pet rabbit the size of a dog. And remembers when the parents in the story were kids, does she have some stories to tell…

Whodunnit? It was an accident, don’tchaknow, kids being kids, but the non-police adults find an awful lot of clues.
