My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Who taught Superman about his superpowers?
“John Smith” (he changed his name so often that this is all that was left) is a teenager on earth, from another planet, waiting for his powers to kick in. The bad guys, from a different planet, want to kill him. Why? Because they’re bad guys, that’s why. As the cover copy says, the kids will be killed in order and John is #4.

Henri is John’s teacher, who came to earth too late to lose his foreign accent. He sounds French, so Henri it is. I guess that’s ordinary enough that he doesn’t have to change it.

In the new town where they want to blend in, John falls for the ex cheerleader and her football player ex boyfriend immediately picks a fight with him. Meanwhile, the ex boyfriend also picks on the local nerd who (wait for it) believes in aliens. Gets magazines about it and everything! So John and Nerd bond. Then the magazine drops an important clue.

There’s nothing especially new in the book, but its nicely done and even an old trope is new for those who haven’t heard it yet. I see the series is going strong, and all the titles have a number in them.
