The Murder of Mary Russell by Laurie R. King

The Murder of Mary Russell (Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes, #14)Mary Russell is dead, long live Mary Russell? Before reading, just the title made me think of Reichenbach Falls, and how difficult it is to get rid of a popular character.

This book should have been called, The Backstory of Holmes’s Landlady’. The first section has a lot of chapters from her point of view – but not first person, that’s reserved for Mary’s chapters. My, she had a busy girlhood. How much of that is based on Clara Hudson of ACDoyle’s books? Um. Not much.

The series was really great for 8 books. Then it started going downhill. I missed a few books before this one, and I’m not going to look for them. If they show up on the library shelf, I might not read them.
