Roses and Rot by Kat Howard

Roses and Rot2 talented sisters, no competition – or is there?

Imogen is a writer, Marin is a dancer, so they are not in direct competition with each other. Due to Mommy Dearest – does anyone who loves their mother use that phrase, or is it a tag for Ultimate Evil? – they have been keeping apart for a long time, and the artists retreat is a good place to reconnect with each other, as well as mentors. The other two roommates are polar opposites of each other, one hides in her room and hates everyone, one is super enthusiastic about Creating Art.

It seems like the chance of a lifetime – until Imogen finds a bundle of letters between Janet and Thomas True – oh dear. I know those names – someone is going to pay the tiend to hell… or the tithe to fairyland? Things have been getting weird but ‘oh its just artists’ and fairland can’t be real… until suddenly Imogen and Marin are in competition for the prize of prizes, and there can be only one. Imogen writes fairy-tale variations, but she does not quite pick up on the names. On the other hand, her mini-stories in the book are FABULOUS.
