Summer and Bird by Katherine Catmull

summer and bird.jpgDo you want to grow up to be a bird?

Lovely plot, beautiful prose, charming characters, and a villain with believable motivation – I love a villain who is sure they are the hero.

Two pre-teen kids wake up to find their parents (and the cat) gone, and only a pictorial note to tell them where to go…  Both girls have their own character arcs, and both are completely believable.

I love the way Katherine Catmull uses color – they add to the mood without taking up endless paragraphs of description.  There are so many beautiful scenes here, both for scenery and forf character building.  Loved the whole book.
