Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon

Dragonfly in AmberLast book ended with Claire happy ye olde Highlands, this one opens with her 20 year old daughter in modern Scotland. *double blink* So, is it Frank’s daughter or Jamie’s daughter?  Um. About that…

Wonderful adventure in time travel, with the bulk of the book in Ye Olde France. Jamie, after all, was outlawed in Scotland. They have wonderful adventures with royalty, wine-shipping magnates, beggars, smallpox, and of course:  Bonny Prince Charlie.  And they raise troops and fight here and there and Culloden.

You think you know what’s going to happen because of your knowledge of history, but history only tells you there was a storm in the forest. It does not say which individual trees were hit by lightening. Aha, but the first section of the story is the future (the present?) with genealogies and lots of information!  Aha back, people lie on and the records are tangled.
